The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has initiated the recruitment process for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) positions in 2025. This national-level examination aims to select qualified candidates for 9,970 vacancies across various regions of Indian Railways.


📅 Important Dates

  • Notification Release: April 11, 2025
  • Application Start Date: April 12, 2025
  • Application End Date: May 11, 2025
  • Fee Payment Deadline: May 13, 2025
  • Application Correction Window: May 14 to 23, 2025

📝 Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit: 18 to 30 years (as of the notification date). Age relaxations apply as per government norms.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed 10th class or possess an ITI certificate from institutions recognized by NCVT/SCVT or equivalent, along with relevant technical qualifications prescribed for specific Technician categories.
  • Nationality: Indian citizens only.​

🧾 Application Process

  1. Visit the official regional RRB website.
  2. Click on the “New Registration” link.
  3. Fill in the required personal and educational details.
  4. Upload necessary documents as per the specifications.
  5. Pay the application fee:
    • General/OBC: ₹500
    • SC/ST/Female/Ex-Servicemen: ₹250 (refundable upon appearing in CBT 1)
  6. Submit the application and take a printout for future reference.​

🧪 Selection Process

The recruitment process comprises the following stages:

  1. First Stage CBT: A screening test with 75 questions covering Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness. Duration: 60 minutes.
  2. Second Stage CBT:
    • Part A: 100 questions on Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering, and General Awareness. Duration: 90 minutes.
    • Part B: 75 questions based on relevant trade syllabus. Duration: 60 minutes.
  3. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Applicable only for ALP candidates.
  4. Document Verification (DV): Verification of original documents.
  5. Medical Examination (ME): Assessment of medical fitness as per A-1 standard. ​

💼 Salary Structure

The initial pay scale for Assistant Loco Pilot is ₹19,900 (Level 2 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix), along with allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance.
